Announcing important changes in the inaugural SWAMP BOTTOM BOOGIE, an adventure paddle on the Pascagoula River:
This fall, South Coast Paddling Company and Mississippi Kayaking Meet-up Group together with Natural Capital Development, Eco-Tours of South Mississippi and George County Chamber of Commerce, will host a 30-mile paddling adventure on the Pascagoula River from Merrill to the sandbar at Boneyard Road. In 2014, a second stage will be added to the river adventure, and a third stage will be added in 2015 to paddle the length of the river. Saturday, November 9, 2013 (with captain’s meeting on Friday night in Lucedale): Created for serious outdoor enthusiasts, river rats, naturalists and adventure seekers, Swamp Bottom Boogie celebrates the wildness of the Pascagoula River as well as the history and culture of its people. SWAMP BOTTOM BOOGIE is intended to raise awareness of one of Mississippi’s best hidden treasures, the Pascagoula River. Swamp Boogie Course Map 2013

The Pascagoula River runs wild through incredibly beautiful swamps to lush tidal marsh – a freeflowing southeastern river bounded by over 50,000 acres of natural areas. You are invited for fun, camaraderie, and adventure of a lifetime. Adventure seekers will paddle from Merrill and camp on the river overnight where we will be entertained by local musicians and have a great campfire supper.

Swamp Bottom Boogie: Just the Facts
What: Swamp Bottom Boogie is an adventure paddle on the Pascagoula River. When we “grow-up” over the next two years, we’ll be adding stage two and stage three as well as racing component.
2013 Event: A 31.4 mile event on Saturday, Nov 9 from Merrill to Boneyard sandbar; bonfire, camping, music, good humor and the acoustic sounds of nature. Bring your own tent and personal gear.
Mandatory Captain’s Meeting: Friday night, Nov 8 at 6:30pm; Holiday Inn Express, Lucedale.
Lodging for Friday night: two options
1. Group camp available with guide Damian Rumery. No fee, but you must be carrying your WMA use permits. Pot luck camp supper – bring your favorite camp dish to share. contact Damian Rumery, 228-217-8736.
2. Holiday Inn Express in Lucedale: Special rate for Swamp Bottom Boogie call for reservations, 601-947-2099, rate of $79 good thru Oct 24
Saturday paddle: departures at 6:30am or 8:00am
Event ends after breakfast on Sunday: those who want to explore the area later on Sunday, we can assist with arrangements.
Registration: $45 (non ACA member)/$40 (ACA member). Cost includes route planning and logistics, bonfire/camp supper/music/storytelling on Boneyard sandbar Saturday night, camp breakfast on Sunday
Add-on costs as needed: shuttle service, $20; t-shirt, $18; kayak or canoe rental $60/$80.
Participants bring their own camping and personal gear. Kayaking gear available to rent: kayaks, canoes, PFD, paddle

Required PRWMA User-fees – payable to the State of Mississippi, Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks

Resident 3-Day Camping: $12.29

No alcohol permitted: (PRWMA does not allow alcohol and George is a dry county)
